The Spiritual Heritage of Azerbaijan: The Role of Zoroastrianism
Zoroastrianism, one of the world’s oldest religions, played a significant role in shaping Azerbaijan’s spiritual and cultural landscape. The country was once home to numerous fire temples, some of which still stand as historical monuments today. The fire worshipping traditions that influenced the Zoroastrian faith have deeply impacted Azerbaijan’s cultural identity. In fact, the country’s connection to fire is evident in its national symbol, the flame, and in the Flame Towers of Baku. Today, many of Azerbaijan’s sacred sites, such as the Atashgah Fire Temple, are visited by both religious pilgrims and tourists interested in ancient history.
